A 34-year-old science teacher died from smoke inhalation Friday morning following an explosion inside a laboratory at the University of Health Sciences in Phnom Penh, officials said.

“It was a can of flammable spray that started the fire. He came first to prepare the lab equipment for showing his students and was careless with using the equipment,” Mr. Moniroth said.


“I heard an explosion from the lab and heard the victim shouting ‘help, help,’” Mr. Ner said. “We tried to save him from the room but it was very dark smoke and we couldn’t see anything,” he added.

The Nuclear Science Center on the Texas A&M campus was evacuated Thursday morning after a chemical spill.

University Police Lt. Allan Baron said about four liters of toluene were spilled inside the facility. Fifteen people were evacuated and there were no injuries.

Toluene is a clear, colorless liquid with a distinctive smell, according to the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry.
It is added to gasoline, used as a solvent and to produce benzene.

A chemical spill at a Manchester imaging facility sent 10 people, including two pregnant women, to the hospital Friday morning.

Manchester police chief Lisa Parker said an employee of the imaging center had been in direct contact with a chemical solution while carrying the leaky container from one part of the building to another. The employee was treated at the scene and transported to Community Medical Center, Parker said.

The Berkeley Hazardous Materials Response Unit secured the chemical and the Stafford Township Fire Department's DeCon Unit was dispatched to the facility and the Point Pleasant Fire Department went to Community Medical Centerto help decontaminate the responders and the patients exposed to the chemical, Della Fave said.


The chemical is used to test the MRI machine monthly.

Paramedics and firefighters were called to the University of Liverpool at 8.48am this morning after a student was injured in a chemical explosion in a science lab, the Liverpool Echo reports.

Elsewhere at University of Manchester a building had to be evacuated and several city centre roads closed by police after an explosive chemical was discovered in a science lab.


Police were called to the Paper Science Building in Sackville Street, Manchester, at 11.30am this morning after reports that some Acetone Peroxide had ‘crystallised’ making it potentially explosive.

"We thought it was a drill but then were told there was a chemical leak in the Pariser building."

The emergency services were called to the Pariser Building shortly before 11.30am following concern about how acetone peroxide was being stored.

Fire fighters in protective suits were called to an acid spill in Trinity College yesterday.A number of units from Dublin Fire Brigade (DFB) attended the scene at the university after the incident in a zoology science lab.The fire crews wore special hazmat suits as they dealt with the toxic spill.
